Winter Snowflake Wedding Cake

This elegant cake design fit well with the cold weather we are experiencing right before the holiday weekend. The snowflake & lace pattern and all white design was beautiful with the vibrant reds & greens used throughout the reception site. The couple requested to have their monogram on the design along with sugar snowflakes on the ribbon instead of a bow. It turned out great and looked stunning with the red roses and green holly leaves as the topper.

With the change in weather and Christmas fast approaching, we thought it would be fitting to revisit an amazing photo shoot we were a part of that was featured on Style Me Pretty. The ever so talented Rachel, from Talia Events, put together an incredible group of wedding vendors that contributed to her idea of ModYarn styled shoot and we were so fortunate to be included.

Our dessert bar & cake design followed the Modyarn theme and it reminds us of a warm wool sweater that would come in handy during some of our cold winter days. Take a look at how the shoot came together and tell us what you think!

Buttercream and Diamond Banding Wedding Cake

We just received these lovely photos from one of our brides and we wanted to share them. Their wedding cake was a simple, yet stunning design placed as the centerpiece at their reception at Della Terra in Estes Park, CO. Of course, we loved that purple was the accent color! A special thanks to Cassidy Brooke for capturing the beauty of the cake with great photography.

A Few First’s Celebrated with Cake

It seems, recently, we’ve been asked to do a bunch of cakes for ‘First’s’. You know, 1st Birthday…1st Communion, that sort of thing. We thought it might be cute to group them together into one post and show how creative our clients are in planning parties for their loved ones.

Here’s a 1st Birthday cake for Evelyn. The design for the cake was taken from the invitation given to us by our clients. So cute!

This next one is a 1st Communion cake for Kate. Her parent’s requested the color scheme and cross to signify her big day.

Juicy Couture Handbag Cake

This cake was designed for a young lady that really likes to shop. She was celebrating her 9th birthday with her closest friends by going shopping and then having dinner at a local restaurant. What better way to celebrate than with your own Juicy Couture handbag cake. We also included a shopping bag and shoe box from Abercrombie one of her other favorite stores. I’m sure her friends were pretty impressed!

Ivory Ruching & Diamond Brooch Wedding Cake

This beautiful wedding cake design was a favorite of ours in the studio. The ivory ruching on the top and middle round tiers worked so well with lace design at the corners on the petal shaped tiers. The cake was definitely the centerpiece at what was an incredibly gorgeous outdoor wedding reception. A special thank you to Chris Gentile Photography for capturing the day beautifully!

Winter Snowflake Cake

The winter season has definitely arrived in the Denver area. We received a good blanket of snow this week, the temperatures have dropped and we delivered our first winter themed wedding cake! This design is so simple, yet very elegant with the shimmery snowflakes, silver dragees and blue fondant ribbon. We fell in love with all the different snowflake shapes used on the different tiers and as the topper.

Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding Cake

Here is a recent wedding cake we designed for our clients who were in love with the 1930′s-1940′s eras. They wanted the feel of a Great Gatsby evening and used more peacock feathers than flowers throughout their wedding & reception. The design on the top tier was a combination of a stencil and hand piping. The brooch bouquet was the finishing touch on a very unique cake where we were able to mix and match shapes to get the perfect design.

Here is a recent cake we designed for a couple who went with a vintage, old Hollywood feel for their wedding & reception. The silver fondant with intricate black lace designed complimented the black feathers and silver brooch really well. It definitely fit in with the 1940′s-1950′s era feel for the evening.

Camping in the Mountains Cake

When you love snowboarding and camping, what better way to show it than with cake?! This groom’s cake was created for a couple who clearly loves the outdoors and all that Colorado has to offer. They are avid snowboarders and campers and love bringing their dogs along with them. We were able to incorporate all their passions in one cake design that really did tell a story.

Once the wedding season begins to wind down, we get excited around the studio because we have more time to focus our energy into meeting with our 2012 couple’s. When we meet with prospective clients and go through a consultation, we like to encourage then to bring in as much inspiration from their planned wedding as they can. Whether that be color scheme, dress details or invitation samples, we like to see everything and try to include those details into the cake design.

Until recently, most of our couple’s would bring in pages of inspiration or swatches of their dress and everything would be in a binder or a folder. This is all fine and dandy…until you’ve been introduced to Pinterest! Please tell me you’ve heard of Pinterest!! This lovely little website has been a god-send to us and we are encouraging all our clients to utilize it when planning their wedding or party. What we love about the site, is you can pin any number of details onto a single board and then share the link for that particular board.

I have a feeling much of our ‘off-season’ will be spent building boards! So far, we have some great boards based on color, cake inspiration and cake accessories, and we keep adding to them every day. We even have ideas to build boards for our clients with cake designs that incorporate their visions and then share those boards to make sure we are all on the same page. It’s those added touches that makes client’s feel special when planning the most important day of their lives. If you haven’t already, you should definitely check us out on Pinterest.

Black Lace + Feather Cake

This a recent cake we designed for a couple looking to create a 1940′s classic, party atmosphere at their wedding reception. The black hand-piped lace along with the black feathers and brooch played well against the double stacked tiers. This cake really was a showstopper at the reception!

Vintage Floral Buttercream Cake

The design for this wedding cake was pulled from the vintage table linens that were used in the outdoor reception at the bride’s private mountain top home. The detailed floral design was hand piped onto the soft yellow, buttercream icing which played well with the vibrant flowers displayed throughout the reception site. We also loved making the University of Georgia football helmet cake that the bride surprised her groom with.

The beautiful mountain scenery and warm weather made for an amazing day that was orchestrated by Debbie from Save the Date Events and photographed by Jason & Gina from Jason+Gina Wedding Photographers.

Phantom of the Opera Crashing Chandelier

Here is our crashing chandelier cake that replicates the one from Phantom of the Opera. It definitely was a labor of love, but in the end, we were so pleased with the finished product. Our clients were equally as pleased, and it was the show piece they were looking for at their wedding reception at the Dickens Opera House in Longmont, CO.

Here are a few specifics on the cake construction that might surprise you:

We used 34 yards of crystal beads
There were 16 working LED lights that illuminated the hanging lights
The cake ended up weighing between 80-90 pounds and was roughly 2 feet tall
We used too many power tools to count and there was a lot of math going on in the studio!

We Are Going On Vacation!
